Anthony Babington was an English nobleman convicted of plotting the assassination of Elizabeth I and conspiring with the imprisoned Mary Queen of Scots. The "Babington Plot" of 1586 and Mary's involvement in it led to treason charges against her and later to her execution in 1587.
