Case: R v Pagett (1983)

Where a third party intervenes in the causal chain between the actions of the first defendant and ultimate outcome, they will only break the causal chain where it is proved they are free, deliberate, informed and so independent of the act of the accused that it should be regarded in law as the cause of the victim's death, to the exclusion of the act of the accused.
