Employee / Employee Relations | A Rolls Royce Pay Rise Averts Industrial Action

Potential industrial action at the BMW-owned Rolls Royce Motor factory in England has been averted through the agreement of a significant pay rise.

The BBC reports here that unionised employees at the factory in Goodwood will each receive a 10% pay rise and a £2,000 bonus.

Prior to the deal, 98% of employees had voted in favour of industrial action if their demand for a pay rise was not met.

The union has claimed that the pay deal has "considerably" closed the pay gap between workers at Rolls-Royce and its competitor Aston Martin.

Given that the quality and reputation of Rolls Royce cars is so closely linked to the specialist skills and expertise of the factory staff, the pay rise might be seen as a small price to pay to keep the production line rolling!
