Franchise / Suffrage

The terms franchise and suffrage both refer to the same thing - the ability and right of someone to vote in an election. For example, their is a debate in the UK about extending the "franchise" to 16 year-olds to vote in General Elections. Similarly, the Suffragettes were members of women's organisations in the late-19th and early-20th centuries which advocated the extension of the "franchise", or the right to vote in public elections, to women.
