Gender pay gap
The gender pay gap is calculated as the difference between average hourly earnings (excluding overtime) of men and women as a proportion of average hourly earnings (excluding overtime) of men’s earnings. In the UK, the government recently pushed through legislation requiring larger firms to make public data on gender pay gaps in a bid to make existing gender pay differences more transparent. Drawing on 2018 data, women earned 39% less than men across the advanced OECD countries, and 14% less when comparing full-time employees.
