The Invasion of Poland was a secret part of the Nazi Soviet Pact. They had agreed to work together to divide Poland between them. This agreement meant Hitler was able to invade Poland without retaliation from the USSR. He also did not believe that Britain and France would stop him, after all they had let him take Austria and Czechoslovakia.
On the 1st September 1939 the German Army invaded Poland followed by the Soviet Army on the 17th September. The invasion was quick. Despite Hitler’s planning, Britain and France kept their promises to Poland and declared war with Germany on 3rd September 1939.
