Manufacturing is the use of machines, tools and labour to make things for use or sale. The is most commonly applied to industrial production, in which raw materials are transformed into finished goods on a large scale. Good examples of manufacturing include vehicle manufacturing, processed foods, steel-making and engineering products.
In the UK, the manufacturing sector has decline over the decades. In 2017, the manufacturing sector accounted for 10% of total UK economic output (Gross Value Added). In March 2018 it accounted for 8% of jobs.
