Means of production is a Marxist term in origin. The means of production can be used to categorise the social classes into the bourgeoisie and the proletariat. The bourgeoisie own the means of production and the proletariat work the means of production. Unlike the mental means of production, this term places its focus upon economic resources, and is sometimes known as the means of physical production.
