Sisterhood: a collective term used by feminists to emphasise the need for unity amongst women in terms of advancing the feminist cause. Since the emergence of third wave feminism the term has become rather less common. To third wave feminists, the notion that women were betraying the sisterhood simply by exercising their own free will imposed a restrictive and unhelpful concept of feminism.
