Here's an engaging, editable and effective activity to help students recall their knowledge of key content in Edexcel GCSE History - Early Elizabethan England 1558-1588.
The Thinking Skills Bingo PowerPoint-based game from tutor2u is ideal as a retrieval practice activity - particularly for a knowledge-dense specification like Edexcel GCSE History!
Students can work alone, in pairs or groups. Their first task is to draw a 3x3 grid and then populate it with possible answers to the question posed (e.g. "Name 9 key events from Early Elizabethan England 1558-1588").
Then the fun begins. The virtual bingo machine draws suggested answers out and students (hopefully) tick the same answer off from their cards. Play for the first team to get a line, or go all out for a full house (all 9).
Of course you can add in some extra learning as the bingo balls appear. Follow-up questions such as "in which year was the Babington Plot?". The learning never ends!
We've provided two ready-to-use versions covering the Key People and Key Events.
You can edit the questions and suggested answers (up to 40). To launch a different set of bingo ball answers, follow the instructions within the PowerPoint file.
Give it try and let us know how you get on!
