The Allied Powers refer to those countries fighting against Germany in the First World War. When using the term allied powers, it can refer to the countries themselves or the leaders of those countries.
The Allied Powers were:
- Great Britain – David Lloyd George
- France – Georges Clemenceau
- Russia – Tsar Nicholas II up to 1917
- United States – President Woodrow Wilson
Occasionally the allied powers include Italy as they had swapped sides during the war and were thus on the winning side. They were included in the Versailles peace conference.
It is important to note that, Russia had finished the war in 1917 after it had gone through the Russian Revolution so made peace with the Germans. They were not present at the Versailles Peace Conference.
